Seedance 2.5 Release Date: Announced June 23, Available Now

Seedance 2.5 was announced June 23, 2026, spent months in closed beta while the reported July dates slipped, and is now generally available. The full timeline and what's still unverified.

Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's newest Seedance video model, and the single most-asked question about it used to be: when can I actually use it? That question now has a short answer — you can use it today. Here's the honest timeline of how it got here, and what about the release is still unverified.

The short answer

Seedance 2.5 is generally available. You can generate with it right now on Sunra, on Dreamina and CapCut, on ByteDance's own Volcano Engine Ark and BytePlus ModelArk APIs, and through partners fal and Replicate.

What's confirmed

  • Announced June 23, 2026 at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference in Beijing.
  • Launched into a closed, enterprise-only beta — not open to the general public at first.
  • CapCut's newsroom post of July 31, 2026 announced the Dreamina Seedance 2.5 rollout to subscriber accounts across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America. This is the earliest dated first-party marker of the public rollout.
  • By August 2026 the model is documented and callable on ByteDance's own API surfaces — doubao-seedance-2-5-260628 on Volcano Engine Ark, dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628 on BytePlus ModelArk — and live on Sunra, fal and Replicate.
  • ByteDance never posted a single dated "Seedance 2.5 is generally available" announcement, and has published no first-party consumer rate card. So there is no one canonical "release date" to cite, only the sequence above.

The reported timeline — and what slipped along the way

Early reporting pointed to a staged rollout through mid-July. Those specific dates did not hold:

  • "Early July" consumer availability and a July 16 Volcano Engine / BytePlus ModelArk API opening were both widely reported, and both passed without a launch — no public API, no model listing, no pricing at the time.
  • Through mid-July the strongest signal was official but undated: CapCut teased "Coming soon: Dreamina Seedance 2.5 is arriving on CapCut." That teaser became the July 31 rollout post, so the consumer route did land via CapCut/Dreamina rather than API-first.
  • Dates circulating in search results for a precise "API GA day" come from third-party blogs and aggregators, not from ByteDance. Treat them as unverified.
  • Third-party reports also describe a long-video mode on Dreamina — 30-second scenes extendable to 90-second drafts and up to 180-second outputs. That remains reported, not confirmed: nothing we can verify generates past 30 seconds in one pass.

The lesson worth keeping from this episode: reported launch dates for ByteDance models slip routinely, and the model showing up in a vendor's model list is a far better signal than a blog headline.

How the rollout worked

Seedance versions reach people in a predictable order, and 2.5 followed it:

  1. Doubao and Volcano Engine (China) first, as an enterprise beta.
  2. Dreamina/CapCut and BytePlus ModelArk (international) next.
  3. Third-party platforms — Sunra, fal, Replicate — once the official API was public.

So the reason "is Seedance 2.5 out?" produced contradictory answers for weeks is that it depended on which door you were standing at. All of them are now open.
